AFA Ten Million Minutes Reading Challenge

                                      GREAT NEWS!!!

Following on from the success of Fistral class last year, we are delighted to announce that we have registered to take part in this year’s AfA reading challenge- Ten Million Minutes.

The national education charity Achievement for All (AfA) is challenging primary school children across the country to read for a total of Ten Million Minutes in one week (Thursday 9th March – Wednesday 15th March 2017). The idea is to promote a love of reading!

The school which reads for the most number of minutes by the end of the week could win a brand new library or reading area for their school worth £10,000 courtesy of Peters. Second, third and fourth placed schools will win a £250 voucher to spend on primary resources with Oxford University Press.

All you have to do is encourage your child to read as often as they can during the week. All reading counts – whether it’s a book, magazine, newspaper or e-book, whether they read on their own or with an adult. Just make sure they time themselves and keep a note of it so their teacher can add it to the school total each day. There is a live online leaderboard, so that we can see how we are doing compared to others across the country! We will be keeping the children updated with their progress daily.

                            REMEMBER, EVERY MINUTE COUNTS

There are lots of exciting events going on throughout the challenge to encourage children to read and develop a love of books. We will be setting up a display board with pictures of children and staff reading in unusual places, so please send in lots of pictures! Some children will be visiting local book stores and taking trips to the library and lots more of exciting activities.

We will end the competition with a celebration of books on Wednesday 15th March and children will be able to come to school dressed as their favourite book character.

A photo gallery of the children enjoying and taking part in the challenge will be added to this page as the week progresses, so keep logging in to see what we are getting up to.

Thank you for your support and don't forget to fill in your child's reading log each night. (This must be completed by an adult to ensure accurate minutes are being logged)
